Autumn is here, which means that the hottest selling season in Canada is in full swing.
2017 was marked by increased demand for pickup trucks. The big three (GMC, Ford and Dodge) all reported an increase of vehicle sales compared to last year. Automakers are preparing for another strong year with a new lineup of trucks.
Today, you can find tons of information and photographs about the 2019 models on the Internet from varied sources.
However, the actual manufacturers are not in a hurry to give us more information about these new trucks. So, it’s quite hard to make any conclusions.
The 2019 pickup trucks will start coming out in summer 2018. However, it’s most likely that we will have the first look of all models at the upcoming North American International Autoshow in Detroit (January 13-28, 2018).
For Canadians, the first opportunity to see new models will be at the Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto (February 16-25, 2018).
Let’s look at four of the most anticipated trucks, which should see the light in 2018:
2019 Dodge Ram 1500
Spy shots of the Ram 1500 before it’s actual release have become common.
The new 2019 Dodge Ram is no exception. In the last weeks, we got some pretty good snapshots, which allows us to evaluate the new model from all angles.
Enthusiasts have long been waiting for a new generation of these popular pickups. The last generation was announced back in 2012. However, do not expect any significant changes.
The American company is going to make some small interior and exterior changes to make the car look more modern. In addition, the old 8.4-inch display is going to be replaced by a new Uconnect touchscreen system.
Under the hood you can expect a 345 horsepower 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine. It also will be possible to purchase a version with 230 horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine.
2019 Ford Ranger
The latest generation Ford Ranger was released in 2011, and since then the company has forgotten about this model.
Finally, this year Ford announced that in 2019 they are going release a new generation with a new design.
The company is also planning to offer a Raptor version of the Ranger, which we look forward to. It has been suggested that it’s main competition will be the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 after the release of both trucks.
We can expect a version with 300 horsepower and a 3.2-liter V6 engine with the EcoBoost technology. This will allow the Ford Ranger to be much more fuel efficient and will help the Ranger to compete with the diesel Canyon or Colorado.
To meet the future demand for the new model, Ford plans to invest $1 billion in improving an existing plant in Michigan. The American company will begin mass production of the Ford Ranger and the future Ford Bronco SUV by the end of 2018.
2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
The current generation Chevrolet Silverado 1500, which was released in 2014, is already outdated. Automotive technology has moved forward and Chevy should catch up with the trends.
The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 model will have to introduce some new technologies, including a push-button ignition and infotainment system.
As for the exterior, do not expect any drastic changes. The company plans to add aluminium body panels that will cover the metal frame. GM is also focusing on the efficiency of their vehicles, so they plan to reduce the weight of all future pickup trucks. Whether all these changes are implemented fully, is still unknown.
It is expected that there will be two versions of the car with the different engine.
The first version will come with a 4.3-liter V6. This is the engine that you can see in models of the current generation. Moreover, it’s going to be a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that will have excellent fuel efficiency.
We can expect the debut of a pickup truck in January of 2018, at the Detroit Auto Show. Sales are kicking off at the end of May 2018 or at the beginning of June 2018.
2019 GMC Sierra
Along with the Chevrolet Silverado, GMC also plans to begin sales of the GMC Sierra in 2018, which in many ways is very similar to its brother car.
Today on the Internet, you can already find spy shots of the new truck. Some particularly vigilant people were able to notice the new jewel-like headlights and beefier grilles. It however still follows the traditional truck box shape.
In the new generation of Sierra, we can expect to see aluminium body panels. On the other hand, we are not 100% sure of GMC’s plans to use them in a new car. The U.S. company plans to make minor external changes that will help to improve the aerodynamics of the vehicle and make it stronger.
Expect a new diesel engine, which was tested in the desert this summer. Also, we are also waiting for the enhanced EcoTec3 powertrains and updated 10-speed automatic transmission, which the company is developing jointly with Ford.
