Spring cleaning for your car

Hello sunshine, clean roads and seasonal road trips; we’ve missed you! Undoubtedly, you are ready to get your car looking as great as this warmer weather feels, so here are our tips. They are fast, easy and inexpensive, which is the ideal combination if you want to hit the road ASAP.

Stow the Snow Tires

Now that the temperature is regularly reaching over 7° it is probably safe to say you can remove your winter tires. Due to the type of rubber used in making winter tires, they really only perform well when roads are frozen and icy. The heat and humidity of warm weather will wreak havoc on your winter tires. All-season tires are your best bet for summer driving.

Spring Check-up

While you’re at the mechanic, have them do a thorough inspection of your vehicle. They’ll run tests to ensure everything is in good running order and replace anything that has worn out, like the wiper blades.

Give it a Good Cleaning

Restore the exterior to its former glory with a good wash to remove any remaining mud, dirt, salt and grime. Follow that up with a little extra TLC in the form of a thorough waxing. It may seem like a lot of extra work, but wax will help keep your car shiny and repel water to prevent rust, etc… really helping to extend it’s lifespan.

Give the Interior some Love

Now that you’ve finished the exterior it’s time to clean up the inside, too. You bring in a lot of salt, stones and mud on your shoes during the winter, so it’s important not to skip this step.

  • Remove the mats, shake them out and go over them with a vacuum (if need be)
  • Vacuum all the upholstery, including the area the mat normally covers
  • Wipe down the dash to remove any settled dust
  • Clean up any spilled coffee with a damp wipe
  • Spray down the inside of the windows with cleaner and buff away streaks/smudges

Clean out the trunk

You might only use it for storage, but it’s also a great idea to empty out and clean your trunk. Store anything winter specific in the garage so you have more space for your summer necessities. Bonus – a lighter load means improved fuel economy!

With these tips your vehicle will be spring and summer ready in no time! Pick a beautiful summer day and get out there – why not involve the whole family! Sacrificing a little time is worth the piece of mind knowing that your vehicle is in tiptop shape. The sooner you finish cleaning the sooner you will be back on the road!
